Learning Objectives

  • Be able to fluently use these terms: climate, regions, topography, and human and physical characteristics of place.
  • Describe ways in which the United States can be divided into different regions.
  • Compare human and physical characteristics of a region to which Michigan belongs with those of another region in the Untied States.


In class, we learned that Michigan and seven other states that border one or more of the Great Lakes make up the Great Lakes region. The Great Lakes have influenced the history, climate, economic activities, transportation networks, and culture of the Great Lakes region. In our last lesson, we learned that Michigan belongs to the Midwest region, the Great Lakes region, and the RustBelt region.
